NERACOOS
Katy Bland is the Engagement & Research Manager at the Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems (NERACOOS), in collaboration with New Hampshire Sea Grant and Maine Sea Grant. In her joint position, she focuses on the needs of each organization's end-users and community members, helping them navigate the evolution of the offshore renewable energy sector within the context of existing (e.g., fishing, shipping, tourism) and emerging (e.g., offshore aquaculture) industries. Since January 2024, Katy has provided program management support for the Maine Offshore Wind Research Consortium. She holds a B.S. in Earth Science from Cornell University and a M.M.A. (Master of Marine Affairs) and Graduate Certificate in Climate Science from the University of Washington.
NERACOOS implements the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing system (IOOS) from the New York Bight to Atlantic Canada. As a federally-certified Regional Coastal Observing System (RCOS), NERACOOS serves people by creating, organizing, and sharing information about the ocean to advance resilient communities, economies, and marine ecosystems.
New Hampshire Sea Grant and Maine Sea Grant are partnerships between the University of New Hampshire and the University of Maine, respectively, and the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration’s National Sea Grant College Program. Through its researchers, educators and outreach specialists, Sea Grant generates, translates, and delivers cutting-edge, unbiased information to help address the most complex coastal issues and support the most promising coastal opportunities.
