Charting the Course to Compliance

Presentation Description: During the permitting and planning stages of large scale commercial offshore wind projects, understanding how many permit conditions a project will need to comply with and how the team will train new staff on those permit requirements is not necessarily a focus. Once all those permits are issued, there needs to be a strong strategy for tracking, understanding, and training construction staff on these requirements, in order to meet the often tight timelines associated with construction. Compliance with the thousands of permit conditions applied to offshore wind development projects is extremely challenging. The objectives and goals of this poster presentation are to increase awareness of the complexities and importance of developing a robust but streamlined compliance training program to ensure construction contractors understand what is required of them, as well as offer solutions and lessons learned from implementation of a successful training program. The relevance of this topic is that all offshore wind development projects are going to be required to train construction staff on the required permit conditions, and construction staff engagement and understanding is critical for project success. The expected outcomes include discussion of useful tools and strategies for compliance training programs, including lessons learned, and to increase awareness of developers and consultants of the importance of compliance training program implementation and tracking.
